The 5th International Legume Society Conference (ILS5) took place from 8 to 12 June 2026 at the Valamar Lacroma Hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia, bringing together experts and researchers from 42 countries to share the latest developments in legume research, crop breeding and sustainable food and feed systems.
The conference, organised by the International Legume Society in cooperation with the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Agriculture, provided a global platform to discuss innovations in legume genomics, crop improvement and the development of sustainable value chains for both human and animal nutrition.
Within this context, the Re‑Livestock project contributed to discussions on how legume-based solutions can support the transition towards more sustainable livestock systems. The involvement of the project reflects its core objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the climate resilience of European livestock farming systems.
During the event, Re‑Livestock partners from the Poznań University of Life Sciences presented research on the use of grain legumes as high-quality, locally sourced feed alternatives to replace imported soybean. These approaches were discussed as a promising pathway to reduce the environmental footprint of livestock production, while supporting more circular and resource-efficient farming systems.
Participation in scientific sessions and dedicated EU project meetings also provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge with international experts and explore how the integration of legumes into cropping systems can deliver valuable ecosystem services, contributing to both agricultural sustainability and climate mitigation.
By participating in international events such as ILS5, Re‑Livestock continues to strengthen its role in promoting science-based solutions and fostering collaboration at global level, in support of more resilient and sustainable livestock production systems.
