Re-Livestock participates in the EcoGen Webinar Series | Ep 6: Beyond Traditional Breeding pt.1

Categories News

Re-Livestock joined forces with the HoloRuminant and RUMIGEN projects on 17 October 2025 for the sixth episode of the EcoGen Webinar Series, titled “Beyond Traditional Breeding (Part 1)”.

This online session brought together leading experts in livestock genetics and sustainability to discuss how epigenetics, multi-omics, and holistic system thinking are transforming animal breeding practices, moving beyond DNA to address health, resilience, and environmental performance.

Representing the Re-Livestock project, Birgit Gredler-Grandl (Wageningen University & Research) and Luca Fontanesi (University of Bologna) contributed their expertise on integrating multi-omics data and systemic approaches to support innovation in ruminant breeding.

The webinar explored how advances in genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and microbiome research are opening new opportunities for more sustainable and resilient livestock production systems. By linking biological insights with on-farm applications, these innovations aim to reduce methane emissions, improve animal welfare, and enhance adaptation to climate challenges.

Re-Livestock’s participation reflects the project’s ongoing commitment to collaborative research and science-based innovation, supporting the transition towards low-emission, climate-resilient, and welfare-oriented livestock systems across Europe.
