2025 | WP5: Re-Assessment of livestock farm systems | Update

Categories News

Work Package 5 in Re-Livestock focuses on assessing and supporting the role of livestock systems in climate policy, while engaging in cross-project collaboration and policy dialogue. Over the past months, WP5 has actively contributed to key policy and stakeholder discussions:

17 February 2025: WP5 participated in an online discussion on Methodologies for Environmental Sustainability in Livestock Farming Systems, organised by DG AGRI. The session brought together various EU-funded projects to compare approaches for assessing the environmental and climate impacts of livestock systems. David presented a summary of the methodologies applied within Re-Livestock, and both Catherine and I attended to respond to questions from EU officers, highlighting our project’s contributions and alignment with broader EU sustainability objectives.

15 January 2025: Catherine represented WP5 in a webinar titled “Global Warming Metrics in the Livestock Industry: Interpretation and Policy Advice.” The session explored the implications of different global warming metrics (such as GWP100 and GWP*) for livestock emissions, providing insights into how these metrics influence climate targets, communication strategies, and policy design.

These policy engagement activities demonstrate WP5’s ongoing commitment to integrating Re-Livestock’s research into EU-level discussions, helping to shape future frameworks for sustainable livestock production.
