On 28 January 2026, the Sustainable Livestock Intergroup (SLI) of the European Parliament hosted a dedicated session in Brussels to discuss how European livestock production can further reduce greenhouse gas emissions while remaining economically viable.

The event brought together policymakers, farmers, scientists and international organisations to exchange perspectives on the future of sustainable livestock production.

During the session, David Yáñez-Ruiz (CSIC) presented work from the Re-Livestock project on the role of feed additives in reducing livestock emissions and shared the latest research results in this area.

His presentation highlighted three key priorities: ensuring that livestock emissions are properly accounted for, clearly explaining the potential for emission reductions across different production systems, and promoting the adoption of available technologies to support mitigation efforts.
