Ignacio Fernández‑Fígares participated (CSIC-EEZ) in the 18th International Research and Graduate Studies Forum of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ), held from 19 to 21 May 2026 in Mexico.

He was invited to deliver a keynote lecture in virtual format on 21 May, entitled “Environmental Challenges in Iberian Pig Nutrition”, where he presented recent research linked to the Re‑Livestock project.

The presentation focused on environmental challenges in pig production, highlighting Re‑Livestock results on the use of alternative protein sources, particularly legumes and insects, as potential substitutes for soybean. These approaches were discussed in the context of reducing the carbon footprint of pig production systems while maintaining efficiency and sustainability.

The forum brought together researchers, students and academic stakeholders to exchange knowledge across different disciplines, providing an opportunity to showcase Re‑Livestock research at an international level and contribute to discussions on the future of sustainable livestock systems.

Participation in events such as the International Forum of UAQ strengthens the global visibility of Re‑Livestock research and fosters knowledge exchange beyond Europe, supporting collaboration with international academic communities.
