An in vitro study at the University of Reading earlier this year has shown that oil-rich food industry co-products have the potential to decrease methane emissions from enteric fermentation in ruminants.
This result informed an animal trial at the University of Reading which compares the effect of different dietary protein sources (such as soyabean, beans or an oil-rich co-product, brewers’ grains) on feed efficiency and methane emissions in an indoor beef production system and a 100% pasture-fed beef system.
The animal trial concludes in October 2023 and publication of results will follow soon thereafter.
